Title: Drabble #17
Written for:
ginamak
Prompt: something from Lucy's POV, about her parents? She can be any age.
Notes: I kind of misplaced ginamak's original request from her Support Stacie bid, and so last night I asked her for a new prompt. Of course, I then *found* her request...but wrote this one anyway.
Lucy had gone for a walk, desperate to escape her family after two weeks cooped together at the cottage; upon her return she was surprised to find her parents sitting near the shore...alone. She slowed her pace, curious.
They were on the picnic bench, backs to the table and faces towards the sea. Da was leaning into her mum, saying something with a small smile. Her mum turned to him, and said something in reply that made her Da laugh.
She blushed as she watched her Da kiss her mum, and she turned to take another walk along the shore.

Lucy's so lucky; she has a wonderful example set for her by her parents--even if they drive her spare from time to time, as all good parents should. ;)

She really does. As well, she has a wonderful example set for her by her grandparents.
Lucky girl.

I just love this image. Happy Peter and Rose, Lucy getting an idea, perhaps, how lucky she is to have parents like hers :)

Anyway, couldn't resist commenting here and noting that Lucy seemed a bit surpeised to see her parents sitting there alone. Was she expecting her sibling to be there with them? I know I've been away for a while so I don't know if we ever received any info on the question raised by Chicklet73's last fic. Or are you just going to keep
tormentingteasing us?From:

(I hope the bastards haven't been getting you down...too badly)

Lucy was fully expecting that her parents would be with her sibling, yes. :)
Or are you just going to keep
tormentingteasing us?I promise, you'll get more of the story. But not this month. Suffice it to say that Peter and Rose *do* have a second child together.

Perhaps said younger sibling was swept off by Graeme and Eirlys in an effort to give Peter and Rose a little quality time together, with Lucy being well old enough to fend for and entertain herself?

No doubt reminiscing about the pre-Lucy days of skinny-dipping on a whim. XD
She blushed as she watched her Da kiss her mum, and she turned to take another walk along the shore.
Yays.
It's good for her to have such a healthy example set by her parents—both in terms of their relationship together and in terms of not helicoptering around her. There are definitely parents out there who would never have let her go on walkabout alone regardless of her proximity to adulthood.

Perhaps about the time she beat him to the water, one memorable summers' morn.
both in terms of their relationship together and in terms of not helicoptering around her.
Oh, yes. Peter and Rose are both protective of her, but they're also very, very good about being restrictive. In Croy, I think she's had free roam for quite a while; and even in London, or at school, she's given a good sense of freedom and self-determination (although there is certainly a guard watching her at school, whether or not she realizes it).

An actual race, or did he come outside looking for her and spin around like Wonder Woman trying to figure out where she'd gone?
(although there is certainly a guard watching her at school, whether or not she realizes it)
She might not realize it when she's younger, but by the time she's a preteen? Yeah, she'd know exactly who they were and where they were, although I think as Peter and Rose's daughter she would know well enough that there are good reasons she's got a guard and wouldn't do anything foolish like try to ditch him or her.

He woke one morning to find she was already up--and, more specifically, to find a note that said "I'm swimming"; as you might imagine, he wasted *no* time in heading downstairs and joining her.
she'd know exactly who they were and where they were,
Heh. She's actually 10 by the time she cottons on; she whinges, but Peter gets her to agree not to be too hard on the poor bloke. And by the time she hits her teens, she realizes that it's actually a pretty good thing to have him there, and that her parents might just know what they're doing after all.

*takes the stairs three at a time, peeling clothing off as he goes*

She's probably not the only one at her boarding school with a guard or guards, although in her case they're more out of necessity than for show.
And by the time she hits her teens, she realizes that it's actually a pretty good thing to have him there, and that her parents might just know what they're doing after all.
Especially if something, god forbid, happens where the guard actually does have to act to protect her.

Roughly speaking? Yes.
although in her case they're more out of necessity than for show.
Her guard definitely takes pains to appear to be non-existent; he's placed on-staff at the school, but his entire job is Lucy's safety. As opposed to the kids with the guards hovering all of the time; those, generally speaking, are to show wealth more than anything else.
Which is pretty much what you said ;)
Especially if something, god forbid, happens where the guard actually does have to act to protect her.
I think someone tries something exactly *once*, where Lucy and school are concerned. It...does not end well for that person.

I'm so sorry, it feels like i haven't commented in years, everything's just piled up on me recently. I HAVE BEEN READING THOUGH!!. All these little drabbles are so cute and Thankyou to everyone for sharing them. AND MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR NEXT THURSDAY. Do we get a Rose/Peter Christmas fic? :)
From:

Merry early Christmas to you, too! There won't be a Peter/Rose Christmas fic, although there may yet be something addressing how the Professor and the Heiress handle the Christmas/Twelfth Night thing. Maybe.

Oh yeah. But, as you say, she does come out the other end, and realizes that she's pretty darn lucky to have parents like that.

Like all families they have ups and downs but they are so made of win!!!
From:

Absolutely. They can argue with the best of them. But they'll band together in a heartbeat at an outside threat, and they all love each other dearly.

(Just wait til I have kids. Muahahaha.)

Oh, definitely. I think I've finally settled on the thought that Lucy's in her teens by the time this drabble occurs...so yeah, she's embarassed, but she's also hit by how sweet it is.

I can't wait to see a story about Peter learning that Rose is pregnant again! I imagine there's a bit more worry on Peter's part, given how difficult birthing Lucy was. You will write something about that, won't you? Come January?
I absolutely adore these universes, and am thrilled to know that you are still entranced by them, as well. Means we'll see much more of them in the future - thank you!

There *will* be a story with that plot point to it, yes. I'm not sure about the January thing...I need to kind of buckle down and get cracking on it! ;)
